Recap - #20 Mississippi State 1, #19 Alabama 0, 5/16/14

With strong pitching, Mississippi State was able to clinch their final regular season SEC series of the 2014 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Alabama Friday night.

Ross Mitchell started on the bump for the Bulldogs and had yet another spectacular outing. He struck out two and gave up no runs in 6 1/3 innings. Mitchell got himself in a jam in the 7th, and Jonathan Holder was his replacement and he showed why he has the nickname "Johnny Baseball". He struck out five and gave up just one hit in 2 2/3 innings pitched. Another great showing for Bulldog pitching.

It was a poor showing at the plate, but one hit is what decided the game, and the man who got the one hit is someone you wouldn't expect. Matthew Britton. Britton got his first home run in his Bulldog career on the first pitch of the 7th inning. The Bulldogs continued to strand runners and hit poorly, but the Britton bomb was enough for the Bulldogs to pull out the victory.

The Bulldogs improve to 35-19, 18-11 and will look to sweep the Tide at 3:05 PM on CSS or ESPN3.
